Dwan Kelsey brings over three decades of nursing experience, having launched her career at WakeMed in Raleigh, North Carolina. She later transitioned into correctional healthcare at the North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women, where she cultivated a deep interest in HIV care. This passion guided her graduate studies, culminating in a specialization in HIV/Oncology.
Her clinical expertise is complemented by a strong foundation in academia and research. Dwan has served as an adjunct professor, contributed to scholarly publications, and delivered numerous presentations at professional forums. She is a sought-after speaker at national and regional conferences and academic institutions, and has been featured across various media platforms including podcasts, television, and radio.
In 2008, she founded wellLIFE Diabetes Clinic—one of the first of its kind in North Carolina—followed by the establishment of wellLIFE House Calls, a medical practice dedicated to providing in-home care.
Currently, Dwan serves as the Associate Director of Community Engagement at Transitions LifeCare, Raleigh, NC. In this role, she leads educational initiatives, cultivates strategic partnerships across ten counties, and advances public awareness and access to serious illness and end-of-life care services.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University and a Master of Science in Nursing – Adult Nurse Practitioner, with a concentration in HIV/Oncology, from Duke University.
Dwan is married and the mother of one daughter, a senior at Spelman College.
