Director of Palliative Care

Dr Katherine Mark currently hold the position of Consult Service Director for Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Mount Sinai West Hospital. She has received her medical degree from St George's University School of Medicine. She subsequently completed her residency in Internal Medicine, followed by fellowship in Geriatrics at SUNY Upstate. After completing her fellowship, Dr Mark moved to New York City to pursue career as hospitalist at St Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital (now Mount Sinai West), where she was quickly recognized for her work with patients with serious illness and aging population. This recognition by the hospital leadership provided an opportunity for Dr Mark to establish a formal multi-disciplinary palliative care team at Mount Sinai West Hospital. In this role, she took an active role on implementation of new EMR, creating policies, developing note templates, and order sets for Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. Her dedication to lifetime learning lead her to complete a mid-career fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She holds her consult service to the highest level of quality patient care, leading to Joint Commission accreditation in Advanced Certification Program for Palliative Care. Dr Mark's current areas of interest are quality improvement projects with focus on the care of older adults and patients living with serious illness, which has been regionally recognized by United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Health Care Award as Quality Improvement Champions.
