Duke University School of Nursing
Ju-Lu Huang, MSN, FNP-BC, AOCNP, CHPN
Ju-Lu Huang is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, educator, and healthcare innovator whose three-decade nursing career bridges oncology, palliative care, and leadership. Currently serving at El Camino Hospital Cancer Center, she develops integrative survivorship and symptom-management programs that unite multidisciplinary teams across medicine, mental health, and rehabilitation to enhance the quality of life for patients and their families.
A Yale-educated clinician and Doctor of Nursing Practice candidate at Duke University, Huang has built and led programs that advance evidence-based, compassionate care, from founding an inpatient palliative care service at Sutter Health Eden Medical Center to directing clinical operations for VITAS Healthcare’s Bay Area region. A deep commitment to clinician communication training complements her administrative and bedside expertise. As a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), she leads the Motivational Interviewing in Nursing initiative, a national effort to embed empathic, measurable communication skills in nursing education and palliative fellowship programs.
Huang’s scholarly work focuses on applying Motivational Interviewing principles to discussions of goals of care and advance care planning. Her DNP project, implemented with University of California, Irvine palliative care fellows, builds competency in evidence-based dialogue using validated metrics such as BECCI and MITI to strengthen patient-centered decision-making.
Fluent in Mandarin and English, Huang blends clinical precision with cultural humility and narrative warmth. Whether mentoring Stanford and UC Irvine fellows, training nurses nationwide, or championing holistic survivorship care, she continues to advance her vision of transforming healthcare through empathy, evidence, and human connection, restoring hope, choice, and dignity at every stage of illness.
