Matthew Gonzales, M.D., FAAHPM is a board-certified palliative medicine physician and a 2017 Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholar. He earned his undergraduate degree from Stanford University before working as a software engineer, helping develop a publicly available
database that supports clinicians in tailoring HIV treatment.
Dr. Gonzales attended the Keck School of Medicine of USC, then completed his internal medicine residency and palliative medicine fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he also served on the faculty.
Since 2015, he has been with the Institute for Human Caring at Providence. He first served as its Chief Medical Information Officer and now serves as Chief Medical Officer, advancing innovation, quality, and compassionate care for people living with serious illness.
