KUMAR
Dr. Kumar joined Kaiser Permanente in 1995 as an internist. She practiced in the Adult Medicine Clinic for seven years before transitioning to the Department of Hospital Medicine. She received her M.D. from the University of Southern California. She completed her internship and residency in Medicine at University of California, Davis. Dr. Kumar believes that patients and families should play an integral part in their own health care. She works together with the patient and family and takes responsibility for obtaining the best health possible for the patient.
Dr. Kumar serves as the Assistant Physician-in-Chief in the San Jose Medical Center. Her responsibilities include oversight of pharmacy, Graduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education, Lifestyle Medicine, Cisco Clinic, Employer Engagement, Health Promotion, Senior Care, the Continuum and Supportive Care Services. She has served as the Northern California Regional Medical Director of Supportive Care Services since 2014. In this role, she oversees the strategy, development and successful implementation of Life Care Planning, Primary and Specialty Palliative Care and Hospice services throughout Northern California. In addition, she assisted in the development of the End-of-Life Options program for NCal and helps oversee this program.
Dr. Kumar has earned several awards in her career. She was named a YWCA Tribute to Women award winner as a woman who exemplifies excellence in an executive level position. In 2015, she was named a Woman of Influence by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The same year, she received the Morris Cullen Teaching in Excellence Award for her years of dedication to teaching physicians in continuing medical education.
In her free time, Dr. Kumar likes to paint, read, hike, and travel with her family, which includes a husband who is a venture capitalist and two wonderful daughters. Together, they have visited over 40 countries!
