Alexander Zirulnik, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine (Section on Gerontology and Palliative Medicine) at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where he also serves as Associate Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. His scholarly work examines the interface between emergency medicine and palliative medicine, with a particular focus on advancing early, equitable, and clinically meaningful palliative care integration in the emergency department. His research emphasizes optimizing the timing and delivery of palliative care consultation and hospice engagement during acute care encounters to improve goal-concordant care for patients. Dr. Zirulnik is a current recipient of a National Foundation of Emergency Medicine research grant.
