Dr. Orengo is a physician-scientist specializing in understanding the genetic mechanisms motor neuron degeneration in neuromuscular disorders. His R01-funded laboratory, utilizes mouse, zebrafish, and cell culture models to elucidate motor neuron biology and disease. Clinically, he is board-certified in Neurology and Psychiatry, serves a co-investigator in the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN), is the founder/director of the multi-disciplinary ALS Center at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and is an Associate Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program.
