Dr. Judy Chang is an obstetrician-gynecologist and health services researcher whose group focuses on the intersection between women in the context of their lives, sociocultural influences and interpersonal relationships and the health services used, offered, and needed. She is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science, Internal Medicine, and the Institute of Clinical Research Education. A key interest is patient-provider communication with an overall objective to identify and promote communication styles, approaches and skills that facilitate positive behavioral change to improve the health of women, particularly during pregnancy. She has been serving as a mentor and collaborator for numerous other investigators exploring patient-clinician communication in other areas including discussions regarding end-of-life or critical care discussions with families and caregivers, parent-clinician conversations during consultstion visits for prenatal diagnosis of complex congenital heart disease, and adolescent health primary care conversatinos regardding eating disorders. Currently, she serves as the immediate Past-President for the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, an international organization focusing on patient-provider and relationship-centered communication; she had served as President for two years from 2021-2022.
