Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellow
Kaiser Permanente - Fontana Medical Center
Dr. Andrew Torres is a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellow at Kaiser Fontana Medical Center and a podium presenter at this year’s Annual Hospice and Palliative Assembly. Originally from El Monte, California, he is the first in his family to graduate high school, attend a four-year university, and become a physician. Dr. Torres earned a B.A. in Neuroscience and Spanish from Drew University, completed a Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at UC San Diego, and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from A.T. Still University in 2022 as a Graduate Health Professions Scholar. He is a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi Osteopathic Honor Society.
Dr. Torres completed his family medicine residency at Family Health Centers of San Diego, where he developed a strong commitment to serving underserved communities and addressing health disparities. His interest in palliative medicine was inspired by caring for his older brother, Adrian, who lived in a vegetative coma for nearly 15 years after a traumatic brain injury. This experience shaped his dedication to patient advocacy, clear communication regarding serious illness, and compassionate support for families facing difficult circumstances.
Dr. Torres’ clinical and academic expertise includes advanced symptom management, multifaceted goals-of-care discussions, hospice medicine, and promoting health equity. He leverages his native Spanish fluency and keen understanding of healthcare technology to improve patient-centered care, guiding families through complex medical systems with clarity, compassion, and dignity.
