Eriko Onishi, MD, MCR, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). She practices Family Medicine at OHSU in Portland, Oregon, and Palliative Care at Salem Hospital in Salem, Oregon. She also serves as the Medical Director for Reedwood Acute Post Care (a skilled nursing facility) and Adventist Home Hospice, both in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Onishi is deeply committed to improving Advance Care Planning (ACP) practices. Over the past decade, she has delivered numerous ACP education programs and serious illness communication skills training to diverse learners nationally and internationally. Her research focuses on promoting interdisciplinary approaches to ACP in primary care settings, and she is currently leading multiple grant-supported projects in this area. She has been a member of the Oregon state Advance Directive Advisory Committee since 2019 and has served as its Chair since 2024.
