Medical Student
Harvard Medical School
Pooja Suganthan is a second-year medical student at Harvard Medical School. She is from Queens, New York. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology at the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College.
Pooja’s initial interest in medicine was sparked through her close involvement in caring for her brother, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Witnessing the determination and optimism of his physicians ignited her desire to provide the same level of care to others. Since then, she has gained experience as a medical scribe, hospital volunteer, and home health aide. She has also pursued research in behavioral health and oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, neuroscience and psychiatry at Weill Cornell, and now palliative care at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Pooja has firsthand experience navigating respite services for her brother and deeply values the benefits they provide to caregivers. She is eager to help make these services more accessible and effective for families. Outside of school, Pooja enjoys dancing, running, and spending time with friends. She is also actively involved in volunteering with her Tamil community in New York City.
