I've been practicing palliative care since 1998 when I first heard Joanne Lynn speak. Recognizing my own clinical failures, discovering they were pervasive deficits, i decided to dedicate my career to the task of mitigating the plague of inhumane care. I have spent my career in policy, practice , and research and much of the job remains undone. My passion is working on the greatest neglected opportunities within my limited reach including global needs. Today that takes several forms, among them the need to infect non-specialists and other disciplines and students with this vision and collaboration in Soweto. Suffering is pervasive and our conventional thinking and action is too timid.
