Michelle Diop is an attending physician in the Division of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She attended Columbia University, where she majored in Anthropology. During her undergraduate years, she completed a public health internship at Bellevue Hospital, through which she first developed her passion for Palliative Care. This interest deepened during medical school at The Warren Alpert Medical School, where she completed the MD-ScM program in Population Medicine. She returned home to Boston for residency, finishing the Primary Care program in Internal Medicine at MGH in 2022. Following residency, she completed the Harvard Interprofessional Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine before joining the MGH Palliative Care faculty. As a Palliative Care attending, Michelle practices on the consult service, the Supportive Care Unit, and in the Emergency Department. She is a member of the LiverPal team, an interdisciplinary group supporting the palliative care needs of hospitalized patients with cirrhosis and their caregivers. She is also committed to improving holistic care for patients with sickle cell disease in collaboration with the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Center. In addition to clinical work with these teams, Michelle is involved in research projects with both groups.
Beyond her clinical and research efforts, Michelle is dedicated to medical education, mentoring, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and resident and fellow recruitment. Since joining the MGH community, she has been deeply involved in trainee recruitment through the Department of Medicine, Center for Diversity and Inclusion, and Palliative Care Division. She now serves as the Co-chair of Residency Recruitment for Internal Medicine at MGH.
