Lauren Catlett, PhD, RN, CNL (they/them) is a nurse scientist whose research centers on the care of older adults from diverse backgrounds. They have adopted a community-oriented approach to aging research that integrates quantitative, qualitative, and participatory methods. They have presented at conferences at all levels from local to global, and they have published articles in peer-reviewed journals on advance care planning and palliative care for older adults from historically marginalized communities. In their current study, "Shaping affirming futures with elders of all gender experiences," Dr. Catlett is using an innovative human-centered design approach to co-design an advance care planning resource with transgender and gender-expansive older adults. Dr. Catlett’s work has been supported by funding from the American Psychological Foundation, the Southern Gerontological Society, and the University of Virginia School of Nursing.
