Nancy Mason has been a certified nurse practitioner since 2004, exclusively dedicated to advancing the medical sub-specialty of Palliative Care since 2007. Caring for seriously ill adults and their loved ones is her passion. Nancy’s expertise includes expert symptom management and goal-concordant communication.
In January 2022, Nancy partnered with Nneka Ufere, MD, a transplant hepatologist, to launch a collaborative Palliative Care-Hepatology single-arm open pilot study focusing on inpatients diagnosed with Advanced Liver Disease (AdvLD). The evidence from this pilot supported the need for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to test its efficacy in improving quality of life, reducing symptom burden, and enhancing end-of-life care delivery for 200 hospitalized patients with AdvLD. In September 2023, a 4-year grant-funded, single-site RCT, LiverPal study opened enrollment. Through research, Nancy’s goal is to provide rigorous scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of palliative care in improving outcomes of patients suffering with advanced liver disease.
