Dr. Gabriel Chain is an attending physician in Pediatric Hospital Medicine and Pediatric Palliative Care at Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his medical training at University College London, where he earned an M.B.B.S. degree and Bachelor of Science in Immunology. After two years of clinical training in Scotland and London, Dr. Chain relocated to the United States, completing his pediatric residency at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Jersey. There he built and oversaw various leadership and quality improvement initiatives, including receiving the CATCH grant to improve community access to care and climate-based health education. Following board certification in General Pediatrics, he worked as a pediatric hospitalist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, caring for patients in both the inpatient and emergency settings. Building upon a strong commitment to the care of children with serious illness, he went on to complete fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Nemours Children’s Health in Delaware. Dr. Chain’s academic and professional interests include the intersection of palliative care and pediatric hospital medicine, quality improvement in communication and end-of-life care, and climate-based health advocacy. His work has been presented nationally at conferences including the AAP and AAHPM, and he has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications in pediatric medicine and global child health. Outside of medicine, Dr. Chain is actively involved in community service, volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and is passionate about music and sports, having twice completed the London Marathon.
