Dr. Ruth Thomson has practiced full-time hospice and palliative medicine for 24 years and holds board certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Hospice Medical Director Certification. She serves the Chief Medical Officer at Four Seasons in Flat Rock, NC where she oversees the care for over 625 hospice and 2300 palliative care patients daily. Dr. Thomson is a Fellow of the AAHPM and was the 2021 recipient of the Josefina B. Magno Distinguished Hospice Physician Award. She has volunteered with the Academy in numerous roles over the years including as a previous Director-at-Large and Treasurer on the Board of Directors, current Delegate to the American Medical Association, and Co-Editor of the most recent edition of the Hospice Physician and Medical Director Manual. In addition to her full-time work in hospice and volunteerism in the field, Dr. Thomson has a robust consultant practice with Four Seasons Consulting Group, serving as an expert witness in dozens of audit and appeals cases for hospices across the country.
