Greg A. Sachs, MD, FACP
Dr. Sachs is Professor of Medicine and Neurology and Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). He is Investigator in the IU Center for Aging Research (IUCAR) and Regenstrief Institute and holds an endowed chair in Health Services Research. He received his BA from the University of Chicago (U of C), MD from Yale University, and completed medicine residency and fellowships in geriatrics and ethics at U of C.
Dr. Sachs's research focuses on clinical and ethical issues in dementia, care of comorbid medical conditions, and care late in life. Dr. Sachs has received grants from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and leading foundations supporting aging research. He has published over 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including “Dying from Dementia” (NEJM 2009) and the results from the IN-PEACE palliative care trial for people living with dementia and their caregivers (JAMA 2025). Dr. Sachs has received both local and national awards including IUCAR Investigator of the Year (2020), IUSM Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award (2023), American Geriatrics Society Outstanding Scientific Achievement for Clinical Investigation Award (2001) and Medical Honoree of the national Alzheimer's Association (2001). Dr. Sachs has served on committees and boards of multiple professional organizations and journals in geriatrics and palliative care.
Clinically, Dr. Sachs is board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, and hospice and palliative medicine. He has had a passion for helping to care for people living with dementia and their care partners for 35 years. Dr. Sachs co-founded memory care practices at the U of C and Eskenazi Health and continues to practice in the Aging Brain Care program at Eskenazi.
