Karl B. Bezak, MD HMDC (he/him/his)

Dr. Karl B. Bezak MD HMDC is a passionate and dedicated physician specializing in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, with a vision of palliative care as the standard of care for all people with serious illness. His mission is to increase access and understanding of palliative care using telehealth and innovative technologies that bring specialty palliative care expertise and service to patients, families, and health systems that need it most.

At the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Bezak serves as the Director of Innovation and Technology for the UPMC Palliative and Supportive Care Institute, and Medical Director for the Inpatient Telepalliative Care service. He is also an active clinician, educator and mentor who seeks opportunities to provide guidance and support to colleagues, medical trainees, and allied health professionals who seek to understand and grow their skills in effective medical communication, complex medical decision-making, and quality improvement. For his efforts and dedication, he has received recognition and awards, and is currently the chair-elect for the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Telehealth and Technology Forum.

Dr. Bezak continues to explore new frontiers in palliative care, embracing technology as a catalyst for positive change. His approach to compassionate care, coupled with the transformative potential of technology, has the power to shape the future of palliative medicine and ensure that patients with serious illness and their families receive the support they need and deserve, regardless of their location or circumstances.
