Rachel Wiste holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Viterbo University and is board-certified as an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse. She serves as Assistant Professor of Palliative Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, where she is deeply engaged in curriculum development, simulation-based education, and mentorship of nurse practitioner and physician assistant fellows. She is an Assistant Supervisor for Hospice and Palliative Care Advanced Practice Providers within the Division of Community Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She has been a Nurse Practitioner in palliative care for 12 years, providing care for patients with complex, serious illnesses, focusing on symptom management, goals of care, and culturally sensitive communication.
Rachel has achieved Assistant Professor of Palliative Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, as well as Academy of Excellence at the Fellow level, Co-chair of the Inpatient Clinical Practice Committee for Palliative Care. She recently became a member of the NP PA Professional Development Subcommittee in Rochester, representing and helping lead initiatives for continued growth and leadership for APPs at Mayo Clinic Rochester.
She has helped develop policies to improve patient care at the end of life. She has advocated for innovative programs, including music therapy in palliative care service integration, implementation of veteran recognition ceremonies at the end of life for hospitalized patients, and leading Native American Palliative Care workgroup, in which a collaborative initiative dedicated to enhancing culturally sensitive palliative care for Native American patients through education, partnership, and advocacy.
Rachel’s scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications on topics ranging from music therapy in palliative care to physician confidence in primary palliative care. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.
