Palliative Care Support Specialist
Blue Sky Collective
Beth has been death-curious since childhood. Growing up on a dairy farm she found herself in close proximity to death many times and was curious and engaged. At the age of 23 her mother, 58 at her death, died of ovarian cancer. This was a defining event for Beth and since then she has not stopped in her quest to be present to loss and death of not just persons or animals but of systems and ideas. She is a certified end of life doula and a palliative care chaplain, also having spent many years serving in hospices and non-profits that included caring for children suspected of being abused and working with council on aging. For the last 6 years she has worked exclusively in palliative care settings, both inpatient and ambulatory. She is training to work with psychedelics for end-of-life support. She often finds herself in conversations at the edge of the cultural values and perspectives around the field of deathing. She is fascinated by dreams and their value to help those who are awakening to life through their dying process.
Beth recently retired from University of Colorado Health and is now living in Bend, Oregon, working a bit (failed retiree) at local regional hospital and happily discovering/living into her next chapters of generativity. She also spends chunks of time with her partner in rural Costa Rica.
Beth’s life-mantra is from Hafez: “One regret, dear world, that I am determined not to have as I am lying on my deathbed, is that I did not kiss you enough.”
