Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Boston Children's Hospital / Harvard Med.
WonJin Yoon, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where his work bridges artificial intelligence and clinical research through natural language processing (NLP). He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science, where he co-led the development of BioBERT, one of the first domain-specific language models for biomedical text. His research focuses on developing and applying language model-based methods to predict patient outcomes such as 30-day out-of-hospital mortality and psychiatric readmission using unstructured text from electronic health records. His work has advanced NLP modeling with the aim of real-world applications through collaborations ranging from academic hospitals to the pharmaceutical industry. At Boston Children’s Hospital, he continues to explore how AI-driven text analysis can enhance clinical decision support, improve interpretability, and ultimately contribute to better patient care.
