Allison Kestenbaum is the Manager of Spiritual Care and Clinical Pastoral Education and Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine (Geriatrics and Palliative Care) at UC San Diego Health. She holds advanced certification as a hospice and palliative care chaplain. Allison conducts research about spiritual palliative care education and serves as founding Spiritual AIM faculty. She was the first chaplain to receive a Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholars Palliative Care Leadership Award (2018) as well as the CSU Shiley Haynes Institute Doris A. Howell Award for Advancing Palliative Care (2022). Prior to working at UC San Diego Health, she served as Director of Programs at the Center for Pastoral Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary in NYC. She completed her chaplaincy training and worked as a Chaplain Supervisor at UC San Francisco Health. She earned her MA in Judaic Studies and MPA in Non-profit Management and Public Policy from New York University. Allison is a Board-Certified Chaplain (NAJC and APC) and a Certified Pastoral Educator (ACPE).
