I am a professor emerita. My professional career has allowed me to develop an expertise in nursing and
palliative care. My research focused on pain and symptom management, community
approaches to palliative care, and developing and measuring quality improvement indicators. For many years, I had the privilege of
collaborating with multidisciplinary teams at Veterans Administration Healthcare System to
standardize and improve palliative care across the nation. My most recent research has focused on improving
palliative care in culturally and linguistically isolated communities. As a professor of nursing, I mentored nurses
throughout their academic trajectory from undergraduates to those pursuing clinical doctorates. I also
supervised nurses working on interdisciplinary teams, with marginalized populations, and in culturally diverse
settings. Finally, I have 40+ years of clinical experience providing care for patients and families facing chronic
and life limiting diseases.
