Qualitative Methods Specialist

Ms. Gilliland is the Qualitative Methods Specialist for the Patient-Reported Outcomes, Community Engagement, and Language (PRO-CEL) Core Facility at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), where her role is to provide consultation and technical assistance to MSK investigators interested in using qualitative research methods in their research plan (e.g., focus groups, semi-structured interviews). Ms. Gilliland is a qualitative methodologist with more than a decade of relevant experience who has received formal training in focus group design and moderation, various qualitative research methodological approaches including thematic content analysis and grounded theory, and qualitative data analysis strategies including the use of NVivo, a qualitative data analysis software package. She assists investigators in conceptualizing qualitative research approaches to meet their research objectives, writing grant applications that will use a qualitative component in their study design, and writing qualitative research sections of funded study protocols. Ms. Gilliland also has expertise in the design of qualitative studies to guide development of quantitative surveys and co-facilitates a biweekly qualitative methods training workshop for MSK investigators.
