Dr. Enguidanos is an Associate Professor in the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California. She is trained in public health and social work and brings a unique focus to hospice and palliative care research. Reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of palliative care, her research involves successful and longstanding collaborations and partnerships with interdisciplinary researchers and clinicians from other institutions and medical centers. Her research employs multi-methods including analysis of large data sets, randomized controlled trials, qualitative studies, mixed methods, and other innovative research designs to fit clinical environments and situations where RCTs are not possible. A primary focus of her research is related to serious illness, advance care planning, racial/ethnic disparities and access to care, including hospice and palliative care services.
Her research aims to extend access to palliative care through home- and community-based models of care. She and her colleagues conducted the first RCT of home-based palliative care for seriously ill community dwelling adults in the United States. She also has conducted significant research to understand the patient, family, and provider experiences of palliative care; identify and address ethnic disparities in access to palliative care; investigate 30-day hospital readmissions and transitional care issues; and investigate models of care management.
