Senior Palliative Care Social Worker & Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine

Lauren King, LMSW, APHSW-C, is a senior palliative care social worker at Prisma Health with more than 17 years of experience embedded in the interdisciplinary palliative care team. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her Master of Social Work from Winthrop University and completed a competitive interprofessional palliative care fellowship at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx, NY.
In addition to her Lauren holds a faculty appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, allowing her to regularly contribute to physician education in communication, ethics, advance care planning, and serious illness decision-making. She is a graduate of the NYU Silver School of Social Work Zelda Foster Studies Leadership Fellowship, which further shaped her interests in leadership, research, and innovation within serious illness care delivery.
Nationally, Lauren serves as a Board Member of the Social Work Hospice & Palliative Care Network (SWHPN) and is a Trustee of the Cinelli Family Foundation. She is a Certified Advanced Palliative & Hospice Social Worker (APHSW-C) and a board-certified hypnotherapist. Her professional interests include interdisciplinary education, ethics consultation, aligning social work practice with hospice and palliative medicine training standards, and advancing team-based models of care that improve patient- and family-centered outcomes.
Lauren’s work focuses on elevating the role of social work as an essential partner in hospice and palliative medicine education, clinical practice, and systems-level innovation.
