Scott Halpern is the John M. Eisenberg Professor in Medicine, Professor of Epidemiology and Medical Ethics and Health Policy, and founding Director of the PAIR Center at the University of Pennsylvania. A practicing critical care physician, he also leads the NIH-funded Penn Roybal Center on Palliative Care in Dementia and the AHA-funded BETTER Center. Dr. Halpern’s pioneering work applies behavioral economics to transform serious illness care, enhance clinical trial diversity, and address racial and systemic biases in healthcare, establishing him as a leader in the field. His research contributions have been recognized with numerous prestigious national awards, and his commitment to mentorship has shaped the careers of countless early-career scholars.
