My research interests focus on palliative care in pediatric oncology, especially to improve the quality of care for families of children with cancer and decrease parental bereavement outcomes. During my clinical work and research experience in China, I frequently witnessed poor-quality communication between clinicians and the parents of pediatric patients who were dying of cancer. This led to adverse parental physical and psychological outcomes, including prolonged grief. This clinical and research experience informed my desire to improve communication among clinicians and parents of children with cancer.
