Ruizhi Zhang is a second year medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She was born and raised in China until the age of 10, an experience that shaped her interest in cross-cultural communication in healthcare. She has worked as a Mandarin medical interpreter for five years, where she supported patients and families in navigating complex medical decisions. Since October 2024, she has been involved in palliative care research, working with Dr. Eriko Onishi at Oregon Health and Science University and Dr. Cynthia Pan at NYP-Cornell. Her work focuses on improving culturally appropriate communication around serious illness and end-of-life care.
