Jennifer Scherer is an associate professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in both the Divisions of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine and the Division of Nephrology. She completed her nephrology fellowship in 2010 at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a palliative care fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2014. Her research interests are models of care for kidney disease that integrate palliative care with nephrology care. She is director of an outpatient kidney palliative care program at NYU and founded an outpatient kidney palliative care program at Bellevue Hospital. She is a recipient of grants from the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, a Cambia Health Foundation Sojourn’s Scholar Leadership Award in Palliative Care, a Young Investigator Award by the National Kidney Foundation, and a K23 Career Development Award from the NIDDK in the NIH. Dr. Scherer served on the Public Policy Committee for the American Society of Nephrology. She is past chair of the Kidney Forum for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and was a community leader for the American Society of Nephrology’s on-line supportive care community. She has been selected to NYU’s Department of Medicine Women’s Leadership Circle.
