Dr. Parajuli is an assistant professor in the School of Nursing and an affiliate faculty in the Gerontology Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She completed her PhD in Nursing from Pennsylvania State University. Her main research areas/expertise include issues related to aging/gerontology, oncology, and palliative care. Her current program of research focuses on reducing disparities and improving equitable access and utilization of palliative care among older adults with cancer and their family caregivers. She recently received two grant funding to support her research: a) R15 grant from the National Institute of Aging (NIA) – this study will focus on development and validation of a palliative care readiness tool for older adults with cancer and b) Sigma/HPNF End of Life Nursing Care Research Grant which will focus on creating the tool for family caregivers of older adults with cancer. Dr. Parajuli has published 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and has received several awards for her research including the recent Excellence in Research Award from Sigma Theta Tau’s local chapter in early 2024. She is the 2024 SWOG Champion for Equity and Engagement in Research and the 2024 Clin-Star DEIA Aging Scholar both of which are training her to become a health equity researcher. She is an active member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association and is a member of their DEIB committee and one of the co-chairs of the Emerging Scholar SIG.
