Dr. Pankaj Singhai is a Professor of Palliative Medicine and a physician deeply committed to advancing compassionate, evidence-based care for people with serious illness in India. He was among the initial few physicians in the country to opt for MD in Palliative Medicine, undergoing rigorous three-year specialty training at Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai—one of India’s premier oncology and palliative care institutions. During his residency, he was awarded the prestigious Bruce Davis Gold Medal by the Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM), Calicut.
Dr. Singhai has been part of the founding teams that established Palliative Medicine services and formal residency training programs at Manipal and later at Indore, contributing significantly to the structured growth of the specialty in India. He currently serves as Professor and Head of Palliative Medicine Services at Sri Aurobindo University, Indore, and is the Director of the Fellowship Program in Palliative Medicine, where he mentors the next generation of specialists.
Internationally recognized for his contributions, he was a recipient of the International Development and Education Award in Palliative Care (IDEA-PC) by ASCO in 2024 at Chicago. He has also received competitive travel grants and academic support from MASCC and the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) to present his work at international conferences.
His clinical and academic interests include Kidney Supportive Care, Early Palliative Care integration, and Palliative Care in severe neurological illnesses. He serves as Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Palliative Care (IJPC), is a Governing Body Member of the Academy of Palliative Medicine, and is part of the National Faculty of the Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC). Through leadership, scholarship, and advocacy, Dr. Singhai continues to strengthen palliative medicine education and services across India.
